Bihrat Mavitan was born in Gavur, Izmir in 1948. From 1968 to 1973 he studied at the Sculpture Department of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts with Prof. Şadi Çalık. Mavitan worked as a freelance artist from 1973 to 1975 before gaining his proficiency diploma. He became a research assistant at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1975.
From 2001 to 2007, Mavitan worked as a lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts of Marmara University. He has held numerous solo exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad and received many awards. His sculptures and monuments can be seen in Istanbul, Izmir and Antalya. Mavitan currently continues his work in Istanbul.
